The 2nd Galaxy Tool Development Workshop takes place from 7 to 9 October 2026 at the Department of Computer Science, University of Freiburg, immediately following the ESG4Stars Kickoff meeting. Organised by the Intergalactic Utilities Commission (IUC) and the Galaxy Tool Developer’s SIG, the workshop offers three days of hands-on guidance from experienced Galaxy developers.

If you have been planning to sign up, now is the moment: registration closes on Thursday, 14 September 2026. Participation is free, and the workshop is open to everyone, whether you are completely new to Galaxy tool development or already contributing tools and looking to sharpen your skills.
💻 Can’t travel to Freiburg? Join online!
Travel plans should not stand in the way of learning to wrap tools. The workshop can also be joined online, so you can follow the sessions and work on your own tool remotely.
That said, much of the value of these three days comes from sitting next to an experienced developer while you debug your own tool, and from the conversations that happen between sessions. We cannot promise online participants an experience equal to that of those in the room, so we recommend joining in person if you possibly can.

- Master the IUC’s best-practice standards, so your future tools sail through review
- Use data tables and data managers to supplement your tools with reference data
- Get hands-on with Galaxy Interactive Tools
- Work side by side with experienced Galaxy developers on a tool for your own use case
