Galaxy Community Hub

From May 5 to May 6, Galaxy Europe and Freiburg team member Wolfgang gave a workshop about the Galaxy platform to veterinary and plants molecular diagnostics practitioners - and he didn’t have to travel far for that:

Freiburg is home to one of four Chemical and Veterinary Investigation Offices (CVUA) of the German state of Baden-Württemberg and they are located within biking distance from our team’s building.

The two-days hands-on workshop comprised:

  • a general introduction to Galaxy Europe, the Galaxy Project and the community behind it,
  • a hands-on analysis of public avian influenza sequencing data through an IWC workflow, and
  • two separate step-by-step analyses (followed by workflow extraction) of amplicon-sequencing data to identify animal species in meat samples and plant species from environmental samples, respectively.

The participants were impressed by the flexibility and user-friendliness that Galaxy offers and that allowed them to put together their desired analysis workflows successfully and in little time. To us it’s further evidence that Galaxy is an attractive platform for the animal and one health sector.
